Boyhood | Movie Mini-Review

Rating:
4.0/5.0 stars

Quick thoughts on Boyhood:

Not much of a plot, or definitely not your standard overarching movie plot. It literally followed 12 years of one boy's life struggles, triumphs, and daily encounters. Incredibly unique concept, especially since it was filmed with the same cast over the twelve years of filming. It wasn't really fast or slow paced; it was simply a true portrayal of life with drama, lulls, and everything in between. If you're in the mood for some action, or even a simple by-the-book movie, this won't fulfill it. With it's unique and indie qualities put into consideration, I highly enjoyed the thought and time that was brought into the making of the cinematic experience. What might be my favorite aspect of the movie is how relatable the references were. The boy is my age at the end of the movie and they made a lot of references from each year with the clothes, music, pop culture, etc. The flashbacks were simply fun to experience along with the lead character. In the most simplistic terms, this is an interesting movie well worth your time if you have the attention or intrigue for it.
